Spa Therapist (multi-skilled)
The hotel-spa profile: massage, facials and body treatments in one therapist. The passport to working abroad.

A hotel spa does not hire a masseuse or a facialist; it hires a spa therapist who can do both, plus body treatments, and can be rostered across the whole menu. This multi-skilled profile is what Gulf hotels, Maldives resorts and cruise lines recruit first, and it is the pathway most international students should aim at. "Spa therapist jobs" is searched 720 times a month in both the UK and India.
The profile
Swedish and deep-tissue massage, at least one signature or traditional style, facials with skin analysis, body scrubs and wraps, hot stone, and confident consultation and retail. Employers abroad add their own brand protocols on arrival; they expect the foundation to be solid.
The route
Spa Therapist Foundation online for theory, practical hours across massage, facial and body at a partner school, then the graduate register. A licence is required where the country regulates massage (see massage therapy).
Where it leads
Hotel and resort spas at home and abroad — read the Gulf, cruise and resort guides — then senior therapist, trainer, supervisor and the management certificate.

Questions
How long until I can apply abroad?
Employers abroad usually want one to two years' experience after qualifying. Use that time in a hotel spa at home if you can; it is the experience they check.
